Session 1 – Opening remarks and keynotes: AI for good – leveraging innovation for the future of social protection

This welcome session explored the significant advancements in AI to date, particularly in areas relevant to social protection. Two keynote speakers discussed how AI technologies have unlocked new possibilities for more efficient, inclusive, and adaptive systems. The session also delved into strategies for integrating AI, highlighting opportunities to innovate and improve social protection delivery.

Session 2 – Panel: digital transformation and different ways of AI impact in social protection

This panel examined how AI is transforming social protection, focusing on key domains such as predictive analytics, automation, and personalized services. Speakers explored the areas where AI-driven innovations are improving social protection systems and having the most significant impact.

Session 3 – Keynote with commentators: enablers and challenges for implementing and using AI

This session examined the enablers and challenges in implementing AI within social protection systems, exploring technical factors such as data quality, digital infrastructure, and data governance. Keynote and commentators also discussed the importance of non-technical aspects such as institutional and human capacity, budget considerations, and legal frameworks for ensuring successful AI integration.

Session 4 – Panel: risks, ethical considerations and policy implications

This panel addressed the risks and ethical considerations associated with the use of AI in social protection, such as bias, fairness, explainability, and data protection. Panelists also explored policy implications, including enhancing digital literacy and improving access to digital services, while also discussing strategies to manage the risks and considerations.

Session 5 – Initial reflections from the audience

This session provided a dedicated platform for audience members to share their initial reactions and insights. It encouraged active participation and the exchange of diverse perspectives on the day’s discussions.

Session 6 – Marketplace: deep dives into AI technologies

This marketplace spotlighted relevant actors driving the adoption of AI in social protection, showcasing the innovative solutions they offered. Participants had the opportunity to engage in deep dives with small groups into specific tools and platforms that are already shaping the future of social protection systems

Session 7 – Pecha Kucha: AI solutions in practice – country use cases

This dynamic session presented practical examples of AI applications in social protection, structured around the framework of problem, innovation, challenge, and outcome. Speakers showcased diverse country use cases, illustrating how AI solutions have addressed specific social protection challenges and improved outcomes. Questions from the audience followed.

Session 8 – Unconferencing: preparing for the future of AI for social protection

This open space session facilitated an interactive format, allowing participants to discuss aspects of their priority in multiple rounds. Participants dug deeper into issues raised in previous sessions or raised new topics about the future of AI in social protection. The session aimed to foster collaborative learning among participants.

Session 9 – Co-creation: introduction

This session marked the beginning of a co-creative series where participants split into smaller groups, each focused on a specific country challenge related to implementing AI in social protection. These groups helped guide country representatives on their AI journey. This introductory session explained the format and introduced the different country cases to choose from.

Session 10 – Co-creation: design session I – problem challenge (parallel session on country cases)

In this co-creation design session, the case givers introduced their specific country case allowing the participants to deeply understand and validate the specific context. Participants engaged in a peer assist process to offer insights and support, focusing on understanding the unique ecosystem of the presented country and conducted a thorough analysis of the problem space.

Session 11 – Co-creation: design session II – future goals (parallel session on country cases)

This design session employed a creative method where participants envisioned and articulated potential headlines that could describe the future successes of AI in social protection for the specific countries. Groups created personas representing various stakeholders, exploring the envisioned impacts and benefits of AI for social protection from their persona’s perspective.
