Overview:
Artificial Intelligence creates high expectations for driving advancements in social protection, potentially heralding a significant shift towards more efficient and inclusive systems. To explore this potential, a three-day workshop titled “AI4SocialProtection – Overcoming Challenges and Creating Opportunities” was co-hosted by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Digital Convergence Initiative (DCI), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Bank (WB), and the International Social Security Association (ISSA), co-funded by the European Commission, the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development (BMZ) and ADB.
The event provided a collaborative platform for participants to share insights, explore innovative approaches, and strategize on the use of AI to enhance social protection systems. It gave space for a comprehensive overview of digital social protection use cases, enablers, and discussions on the potential as well as challenge, associated risks, and ethical implications of AI adoption in social protection. By bringing together experts and stakeholders, it sought to lay the groundwork for leveraging AI to improve social protection outcomes.
The audience for this workshop was a carefully curated mix of social protection experts, policy makers, country representatives, technology specialists, and AI software providers. This diverse composition ensured a rich and multidisciplinary exchange of expertise and experiences.
