Enhanced Social Protection for Farmers: DCI Releases Interoperability Standards

Smallholder farmers are the backbone of global food security, yet they face immense challenges: economic shocks, climate risks, and limited access to essential services. To bridge this gap, DCI has developed crucial interoperability standards to link farmer registries with social protection systems. This milestone will significantly improve the delivery of social protection benefits to vulnerable farmers globally.
Version 1.0.0 of the Farmer Registry (FR) and Social Protection Systems (SP-Systems) Interoperability Standards is now available on Gitbook. The standards, endorsed by the USP2030 Partnership, define clear interoperability requirements between FR and SP-Systems, providing practical examples of data exchange and specifying the necessary information flow between these systems. By streamlining this process, these standards aim to facilitate more inclusive and efficient social protection delivery, directly benefiting farmers facing economic shocks and climate risks.
Recognizing the diverse nature of Farmer Registry data across countries, these standards are designed for contextual adaptability, ensuring their practical application in various settings. This achievement represents the culmination of months of dedicated research, rigorous review, and collaborative effort by our Standards Committee, comprising experts from 16 diverse organizations. Their combined expertise has resulted in standards that are both comprehensive and actionable.
It’s important to note that these standards focus specifically on the data exchange between FR and SP-Systems and do not address the development of Farmer Registries or their integration with other systems, such as weather platforms.
