This was the first session of the “Responsible AI in Social Protection Peer–to–Peer Exchange” series. Organized by the AI Hub for Social Protection under the umbrella of Digital Convergence Initiative, the series supports social protection institutions in building the foundations for responsible and effective AI use. By pairing country experiences, enabling cross‑context peer learning, and sharing practical tools, it helps participants assess their own systems and advance their AI journey in a risk‑aware way.
Overview
This first session of the 6-part webinar series focused on the pre-conditions for AI adoption, asking the core question: “are you ready for responsible AI adoption in social protection?”. Before investing in technology, institutions need to understand whether their legal, organizational, governance, and technical foundations are fit for purpose.
Topics covered include:
- Data readiness and data foundations
- Legal and regulatory frameworks
- Governance and organizational capacity (people, processes, IT, infrastructure)
The session discussed the preconditions for responsible AI adoption and sheds light on the potential consequences of poor readiness, as well as how to spot early warning signs. Through exploring practical examples, participants shared the knowledge and actionable tools needed to evaluate and strengthen their institution’s readiness for implementing AI.
