The “Digital transformation in the public sector” course successfully concluded in Nairobi, Kenya on January 31, 2026, bringing together 36 participants from 18 different countries to strengthen leadership and institutional capacity for digital government and interoperable public service delivery.

This training was jointly delivered by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI), with support of the European Union’s Global Gateway Initiative and the Digital Convergence Initiative (DCI).

Held over one week, the training provided participants with practical and strategic insights into how digital technologies can support public sector modernization, improve governance and enable more coordinated, efficient and user-centred services. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of whole-of-government approaches, institutional leadership and interoperability in advancing sustainable digital transformation for social protection.

Through peer exchange, case discussions and applied exercises, participants examined how these approaches can enhance service delivery, operational efficiency and cross-institutional collaboration, especially in the social protection sector, where integrated digital systems are critical to reaching populations and deliver services effectively.

At the end of the programme, participants received certificates of completion, recognizing their engagement and learning.

This training forms part of the DCI Capacity Development workstream, through which the ILO and its partners support countries in building the leadership, institutional and technical capabilities needed to design, implement and sustain inclusive, interoperable and human-centred digital public systems for social protection. The Nairobi session contributes to DCI’s broader effort to promote knowledge exchange, strengthen national ownership and accelerate digital transformation pathways across regions.
