Overview:

The webinar discussed AI in Social Protection and took up ideas and discussions which evolved during the recent workshop on AI for social protection in Bangkok in November 2024.

The webinar started with a keynote presentation on AI and its potential to solve tough challenges by Ozzeir Khan, Asian Development Bank. Following his presentation, Mohamed Bubaker Alsafi Almenfi, World Bank, gave a framing presentation on social protection. Rodrigo Assumpcao, President of the solution provider Dataprev, then discussed the centrality of data to any discussion about AI – organising data, sharing data, and storing it safely.

Afterwards, the country case of Armenia was introduced by Anahit Parzyan, Executive Director of Nork. Anahit showcased how AI can pre-identify families likely to require social protection, and tailor SP services more closely to their needs, as well as improve fraud detection and monitor the allocation and distribution of resources. Saurav Bhattarai, GIZ, then discussed how AI based solutions can be developed through partnerships, using the example of the open-source software, openIMIS, and its AI module for claims adjudication.

The panel discussion was followed by a facilitated Q&A session and open questions.
